Suzanne Harris talks to Pam Henry Smith about her new book Meet Mack.
How to book came to be: Pam was a fourth grade teacher who assigned her students a creative writing project. Their assignment was to write and create their own story. The story wasn’t written in one day. Rather the assignment took months to complete. Students would work on their story in class each day. Pam watched as students began to enjoy the process and even work together on their stories. She always wrote her own story because she believes that teachers should create a participative learning class room. MEET MACK began as one of those stories Pam wrote along with her students.
About the Book: MEET MACK is the true story of the adventures of an amazing Amazon parrot named Mack. Mack came into the author’s family as a gift given to the author’s grandparents by her father.
The book tells how this parrot brought joy, frustration, and love to the author’s whole family. It will make readers laugh and cry, but it truly shows a bond that formed between a parrot and a family.
Create a memory for a child. Read MEET MACK together and explore the world of parrots.
